As my due date is quickly approaching, I am trying to soak up all the time Nick and I have left for just the two of us! As excited as we are about this new chapter, and for our bundle of joy to arrive, there are a few more things to check off our list. So I am sharing with you all the ideas I have, and even advice given to me by my friends who have recently gone through this new, wonderful stage of life!
5 Things To Do As A Couple to Bond Before Baby Arrives
Weekly Date Night Bucket List
Life is about to change forever and those last-minute happy hours and quick events with friends downtown will be long gone.
A friend recommended this to me – make a “Date Night Bucket List” and try to check one off every week (or month) as a way to have playful fun as a couple. I love this idea, because we just moved to Austin a year ago and still have so many restaurants we want to try! So weekly, Nick has been so thoughtful to plan date nights and so far we’ve checked off: a comedy show, hot pot dinner, live music downtown, and a dress-up date night at a fancy Italian restaurant called Sammie’s. It’s very romantic and feels like we just started dating again – very grateful to have a partner that prioritizes “us time”.
Walk or Workout Together
Walking with baby will be a healthy way for you to get out of the house together! Starting that habit of a weekly walk before baby is a great way to get to know local paths & trails to make it easier to integrate baby into that routine. For us, this is also a way to interact with our furry baby – Ash! Our puppy loves going on these walks, it’s a full family outing.
Each Write A Letter To Baby
This is a great activity to do on a chill Sunday before making dinner or possibly on your babymoon – while you have the time! There are a lot of feelings that arise when having a baby and it’s wonderful to pause in gratitude and write them all down.
Babymoon
Planning a trip together is a wonderful way to bond before baby! It gives you something to look forward to & reconnect with your partner before this new adventure. Whether you book a local staycation or a bucket list getaway – you’ll always remember your last trip before baby! For our babymoon, we visited a local wellness retreat at Miraval Austin in the city where we live. It was so great to rejuvenate and get to know each other better as a couple. We also traveled to Maui for another getaway before the baby. It was so great to travel and explore a beautiful place just the two of us!
Sign up for Classes Together
Baby birthing class, Infant CPR, First time Parenting Class, or even Pre-natal Yoga! Learning something new together is a wonderful way for mom-to-be to feel supported and for you to connect over the new experience. Nick and I have participated in some of these classes and they have been so great for us.
