New Brooklyn Apartment!

Hi loves!

Recently, Nick and I moved into a one-bedroom apartment in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Dumbo. Leaving my Manhattan studio meant we had the fun yet daunting task to decorate a bigger space. First up to find was a cute and comfy couch.

When finding the perfect sofa, here are 3 questions to keep in mind…

  1. What is the purpose of your living space?

    • Will your couch be used more to relax or entertain?

  2. How durable do you need your material to be?

    • Do you have dogs? Kids? A partner who plays sports? There are different materials to meet your and your household’s needs. A material such as leather is more forgiving while fabric is washable.

  3. What color should you choose?

    • Color is used to balance out a room. A lighter color scheme makes for a brighter and bigger room. Darker colors make rooms seem smaller and cozier.

After searching the web, we finally found the perfect couch that made our new apartment feel like home sweet home. With removable cushion covers for an easy clean, a beautiful woven fabric, and a chaise for Nick to put his feet up and relax at the end of a busy day, the Sven sectional Sofa from Article had all the elements we were looking for. We decided on the Birch Ivory color, since we wanted a light color that would make our small NYC apartment appear larger. Now that we have the heart of the living room we can start to plan for our next decorating feat: a gallery wall!

Now that I have more space in Brooklyn, I wanted to make sure I was using that space wisely. The Bios sideboard (also from Article) is a smart way of adding some décor while also having cupboards and drawers to hide the little things that need to be put away. I placed plants and a fun painting on top of mine to add a personal touch. It’s also a great spot to add seasonal merriment!

    Caila-
Do you have any tips on how to start/save up for a furniture upgrade? Your apartment looks beautiful and any advice on which places you’ve looked at for furniture and how you were able to make everything match so well would be great!

No need to rush it, maybe try putting aside $50-$100 a month until you’ve saved enough. Personally, I think it’s really worth it! Good luck 😊

I love the Bios sideboard and have had my eye on it for a while. It turns out it’s pretty large for small spaces though :-(.. I hope they make a similar one in a smaller size!
