I can’t tell you how much happier we feel having decided to stay in New York and move to a bigger space! With these unpredictable times, we originally thought it would be smart to save some money and move in with our parents in Florida when our lease was up. But after we thought about it for a few weeks there was something inside that just didn’t sit right. Nick’s office in New York was opening back up, the home we were going to stay in down South was having construction delays due to COVID… and the hardest part was – we didn’t want to disappoint other people by changing our mind.

But it took me a minute to realize: it is ok to change your mind.

The cards we were dealt had changed. And we needed to let go of our original plan. We needed to give ourselves permission to do what was best for us as a couple. The funny thing was – both Nick and I were feeling the same way, but neither of us was willing to be the first to say it.

Then a week before the movers were coming to pack up our home, we were honest with each other and decided it was better to stay in New York. It was a whirlwind of a week; looking at 8 apartments in one day & signing for our favorite the next day! And in the end, it all worked out.

Luckily in New York people move quickly! So when we changed our minds and decided to move our things to a new apartment instead of a storage unit, our moving company was so understanding and said it wouldn’t be a problem. I hired Roadway Moving to pack our entire apartment & move us, so we ended up being quoted around $2800. But we are two people so we split it and for the peace of mind & ease of not having to pack our glass furniture, heavy bookshelves, entire kitchen, & giant walk-in closet – it was so worth it. Plus it was the lowest quote I got after calling 8 moving companies in Manhattan!

PRO TIP WHEN MOVING:

If you hire movers, pack your fragile items & valuables yourself in large suitcases with wheels. They will pack everything else up, but it’s important you know where your valuables are & have the peace of mind of rolling it over to your new place yourself!
