The Importance of Being Silly
You might think being silly is just for kids, but that light-hearted carefree feeling can actually be good for you and your relationships. There definitely is a time and place for “adulting”, but being serious all of the time can lead to an unhealthy heaviness… and you don’t want that. So to all the naysayers that might be too cool for some playfulness, I say “silly rabbit – tricks aren’t just for kids.” 😉
WHY IT’S GOOD FOR YOU
Silliness… nine times out of ten leads to laughter. Laughter stimulates your heart. And without your heart you couldn’t eat ice cream. Do it for the ice cream. 🍦😋
But in all non-seriousness, you need to let go of control in order to be silly. This freedom to be yourself is the key to happiness. When things don’t go your way, don’t be afraid to own up to a mistake and make light of the situation. Whether it’s through playful games, dad jokes, making faces for selfies, or the classic tickle fight – we could all use a little spontaneous sillliness in our day.
WHY IT’S GOOD FOR YOUR RELATIONSHIP
When your loved one shows their goofy side and you play along too, it can make you feel more connected. These silly moments are what makes you feel like a kid again, showing a side that you might not get to express very often. It’s important to not make them feel judged, because you’re the person they trusted with their whole self. Everyone wants to feel accepted, especially by their partner.
If you find a friend that brings the silly out of you – keep ’em. Those laugh-out-loud, dance-like-no-ones-watching moments may not happen often, but when they do… they can be the most memorable ones.
If you want to be more spontaneous and silly, would love to hear about it in the comments below! We could all use an extra scoop of silly in our day, just ask to put “adulting” on the side… if only for a moment.
