How to Extend Time In-Between Wash Days with Waterless Haircare

This post was written in partnership with Waterl<ss.

All thoughts and opinions written are completely my own and based on my own experiences.

I am a traveler at heart, but lately, the farthest I’ve ventured is from the living room to the pantry. It’s been a few months since our lives have been sequestered and I’ve found the days I have scheduled FaceTime dates with girlfriends I’m the most motivated to wash & curl my hair. But what about all of those days in-between? Well… since it isn’t necessary to get ready each and every day, I’ve found the best way to keep my ends conditioned and roots fresh longer is to go waterless! That is… with Waterl<ss Dry Shampoo & Dry Conditioner of course. 😉

Waterl<ss has an incredible back story, you need to hear.

From Cape Town to Your Town: A Brand with a Mission

Designed to meet the needs of all hair types, Waterl<ss was developed by a team of scientists in South Africa right before the 2018 Day Zero water crisis. That January, Cape Town announced it was 3 months away from running out of water for their population of 4 million and people were in need of a solution to keep hair freshly clean in-between washes as they conserved water. Waterl<ss dry shampoo and conditioners launched just in time to help, proving then & now their products refresh without residue, work for a diverse range hair types, and will leave your curls looking just as good on day 1 as day 3 – no water needed!

Above are some photos from my own Cape Town ventures exploring the colorfully painted streets of Bo-Kaap.

What do travel and the quarantine have in common?

I don’t know about you, but for me, they are both times when I want to wash my hair less frequently.

Can you blame a girl? 😂

A love for Waterl<ss dry shampoo.

When I travel, I always pack a dry shampoo for quick touch-ups in humid weather or sweaty excursions, but I’ve often found it hard to find one that doesn’t poof a cloud of white dust on my dark brown roots. That is the main reason I am a HUGE fan of the Waterl<ss No Residue Dry Shampoo is it’s formulated with micro-fine tapioca starch that doesn’t leave a white residue. I’ve been using it for a few weeks and love that even on day 3 it leaves my hair with a fresh & clean scent.

A secret stash of hair products.

During this time of social distancing, we’ve been lucky to have family in the Midwest to stay with who let us borrow their car when we need some fresh air. On the weekends, Nick and I will take an afternoon drive to a local park and go for a long walk while social distancing. The combination of the wind around the pond and my dry ends from needing a haircut have made me best friends with my Waterl<ss Instant Moisture Dry Conditioner that controls the frizz. That might sound like a joke, but at this point, I have a secret stash of both this spray and the dry shampoo hidden on our car door – and use them all of the time!

6 Haircare Tips For Extending the Time Between Washes

1. Deep Scrub from First Wash

It will be a few days until your hair gets another clean, so use those nails to lather up suds in your scalp and wash off all remainders of product build-up.

2. Blow-dry right away

On damp hair, lightly mist the Waterl<ss Heat Shield Protect & Re-Style to protect from styling tools up to 450* degrees before that blow-dry, straightener, or curling iron.

3. Avoid hair serums & oils

This just makes your hair greasy looking sooner, your hair has natural oils anyway.

4. Brush through a Dry Conditioner to control frizz

I’ve been using the Waterl<ss Instant Moisture Dry Conditioner and love it! Their products were made for different hair types and since my hair is super thick with dry ends, I use the spray with a higher conditioning level on my ends and it leaves them soft & tame.

5. Wait until day-2 to start using Dry Shampoo

You don’t want to build up product unnecessarily, especially when your scalp hasn’t had produced any oils yet. I start using the Waterl<ss No Residue Dry Shampoo on day 2 and I’ve been able to postpone washing my hair up to 4 days, by just sectioning my hair, spraying in my roots, and brushing out. Did I mention, it sprays on invisible – which truly is the best part!

6. Don’t touch!

Oils, grease, dirt, grime… our hands collect a lot of things we can’t see & you don’t need it cramping your hair… style 💁‍♀️

Hope you enjoyed these little tips! I know a lot of us are trying out new products at home during this time and I hope you’re having fun with it. This is a great time to start new habits and fall in love with new brands with a mission. Waterl<ss was a game-changer in a time of drought and their innovative technology is still helping women of all hair types find that I-can-conquer-the-day inner confidence. Did I mention these products are available online at Walmart?!

Now I know I’m not the only one skipping days in-between hair washes during this quarantine… Would love to hear how many days you’ve gone without washing your hair?! Please spill below, I can’t be the only one. 😉

I definitely need to take these tips to heart. If I could wash my hair every day, I would. I hate how it gets SO oily (super fine hair problems). But I gotta try these tips and these products and see what happens. Who knows! It might change everything!

Yes! I totally get it, but Waterless has products made specifically for fine hair, so you’ll totally see a difference!

I love Waterless myself, and a lot of these tips are SUPER helpful. It’s so hard not to tough the hair, but it’s so important to make sure you don’t spread unnecessary oil to it!
