Bridal Shower Newlywed Game

Bridal showers are a time when loved ones get to show a bride how much she means to them and celebrate her upcoming nuptials. On my bridal shower day, I felt so much love all around me! My future mother-in-law and two sisters-in-law were so thoughtful – putting together an enchanting Afternoon Tea Party Themed Shower. With tiered serving trays full of English finger sandwiches, vintage teapots holding bouquets of flowers, and a teacup for each guest to take home, my in-laws to-be put a lot of care into every detail and made me feel so special. That beautiful Sunday in Chicago was the perfect way to kick-off our one-month countdown to saying, “I Do.”

BRIDAL SHOWER GAME & DECOR

My favorite memory from my bridal shower was sitting in a giant leather chair wearing a Bride sash and playing the Newlywed Game while the entire room filled with laughter. If you are planning a shower, this game is a perfect way to get all the guests to have some fun and celebrate the couple entering this next stage of life.

The Newlywed Game

What is the Newlywed Game

Playful fun and entertaining, the Newlywed Game puts the bride-to-be in the hot seat. The host quizzes the bride to see how well she knows her groom with rounds of revealing questions. This game is a great way to break the ice at any shower and allows the guests to get to know the happy couple better!

What You’ll Need

  • 1 Easel, around 3 ft. tall
  • 1 Giant Notepad Paper
  • Markers
  • List of Question
  • Groom’s Answers

How to Play

  1. A week or two before the shower, give the groom the list of questions (examples of these listed later in this post) and have him email you his responses.
  2. Write out the superlative from each question on the top of each notepad sheet with the markers, one per sheet.
    • For example, if the question is, where was your first kiss?, write First Kiss in a fun color or font at the top of one sheet.
  3. Write the groom’s answers below the title on each sheet.
    • Some of the questions will have two answers – one the groom answers for himself and one he thinks would be the bride’s answer. For these, make two columns and label them, His and Hers, then add the answers below the correct heading.
    • For example, the question might be who is your celebrity crush and who is her celebrity crush?
    • Make sure to write largely and in bright colors so the whole room can see!
  4. At the shower, set up the easel and notepad in a space where it is visible to all guests. Next to this set up a chair for the bride-to-be.
  5. Time to put the bride-to-be on the spot! Ask the bride the same questions the groom gave answers to. Make sure you don’t flip the notepad page until she has given her answer. You want the bride to answer without knowing what the groom said.
    • Note: This may sound silly and obvious, but make sure you are asking the questions in the same order as they are written in the notepad. You don’t want to flip the notepad page and accidentally reveal the answer to a future question.
  6. After the bride-to-be gives her answer reveal what the groom said. You can keep score to see how many they get right total.
  7. Pro tip: As the host, bring a lot of energy and keep the questions moving! Try to keep the bride from lingering and thinking about each question for too long. Have her stick to her first-instinct answer or this could get boring for guests.

You’ll note she has a sheet printed with both the Questions to Ask the Bride & the Groom’s Answers

When to Play

At the Bridal Shower, I recommend playing this game before you open presents but after the meal is wrapped up. The game should take around 20-30 minutes.
