Our Nursery Reveal – Storybook + Neutral Winnie The Pooh Forest Theme for Baby Girl

Welcome to our BIG nursery reveal for our baby girl! It feels surreal to even type this out! These past 9 months have flown by and we are – over the moon – excited to meet our firstborn in just one week.

When planning out this nursery I knew I wanted to incorporate neutrals (are you surprised?). I wanted to create a calm energy for our baby while also sparking a sense of adventure. I’m sharing all of the details of how we chose our theme, furniture, crib, wallpaper, our new recliner, and even all the baby products we have in our nursery below!

I hope you all love this space just as much as we do!

Our Storybook Theme Nursery

When we first dreamed of our nursery we were thinking of gender neutral themes. When we first became pregnant, Nick and I both decided we were not going to find out the gender of our baby. But later we changed our mind & I surprised Nick with a gender reveal on Christmas morning! (if you haven’t seen the video from our Christmas with family finding out together the gender – it was a sweet moment that you can find on Instagram here ❤️)

We both wanted the style of our nursery to be original and different from what we had seen before. We talked about what books we would one day read to baby. I loved Winnie the Pooh growing up, those stories always made me smile! I loved the spirit of the characters and the adventures Pooh had in the woods with his friends. The Hundred Acre Woods felt like a magical place, and I wanted that same feeling to be in the room my baby would grow up in!

Our Reclining Glider by Olio

The one product I was most particular with was the rocking chair. This would be where I held my newborn baby, read her books, and watched her fall asleep in my arms. I knew I had to pick a chair with comfort, but also functionality. And I loved that the armrest hit perfectly for me to prop baby’s head on.

Our recliner by Olio was a staple piece when picking items for the baby’s room! There are so many shades to choose from in this specific swivel chair but we chose the High-Performance Ivory shade. Simply to match the neutral themes that were already created in the room and I love a timeless white look. This chair has many features including a kick out recliner where I could prop my feet up, with a small button on the side for a more sleek look instead of a bulky handle. Beside the reclining button is a USB charging port for your phone too – which I thought was so cool! It also has a 360-degree swivel motion and a stain-resistant fabric for those uh-oh moments from a baby diaper blowout or even a bottle spill! One thing my friends have told me is to be prepared for spills + messes from a newborn! I am SO thrilled about our Olio chair for comfort – highly, HIGHLY recommend!

Wallpaper by Wallblush

Once we picked the theme I began my research for a statement wall wallpaper. I wanted it to match our storybook style and spark creativity in our child. I love how whimsical and calming this one makes the room feel! Wall Blush made this process so easy to order a mural to my exact wall measurements. It is a peel-and-stick wallpaper so if we ever decided to move it or change the theme it can easily be done without ruining our wall. Installation only took a few hours and when we had guests visit recently, they couldn’t believe it wasn’t painted on! It looks so real.

After deciding on the wallpaper, we needed to pick the color for the other walls in this room. We went to Sherwin Williams to do a color matching on the lightest part of the forest wallpaper and that is how we decided on the neutral-tone color.

Next, we picked the room’s accent color. We chose a moss green color to go along with the woods theme. I custom-ordered these velvet curtains from Pepper Home and they turned out beautifully! The custom extra long size makes the windows look taller and feels like the curtains resemble trees right out of Winnie the Pooh’s storybook.

Winnie The Pooh Baby Favorites

Dresser & Rolling Diaper Station

While picking out this dresser I wanted the color to match my moss green curtains as a staple piece in the room & feel in love with this one from Crate&kids. The size of the dresser mattered to us, as this would serve as the baby’s changing table so I knew I needed a little extra length. I absolutely love that I am able to fit the diaper changing pad, hatch alarm clock and a stuffed Winnie the Pooh all on there and still have room for a lamp in the future. I also plan to add flowers every once in a while! It took 5 months to arrive, so if you plan on using Crate & Barrel Kids – I recommend ordering as soon as possible! I have heard a few cons about this dresser – that I need to mention – I’ve heard the paint chips easily so I will definitely share my reviews after using it for a few months.

One thing I am so excited about is this white mobile changing station from Target for less than $50! It has 3 tiers with storage space for everything I may need. Ikea has a similar one as well, as a heads up. The reason I am so excited about this is because it is on wheels so if I ever needed to change the baby in our living room or even in our primary master bedroom I have the flexibility to do so!

On the top tier I have items that are going to be most used such as my newborn diapers, wipes, Aquaphor, baby’s bum cream, and other small necessities. On tier two I organized extra onesies for those accident moments so I can quickly have access to change her along with a burp cloth and swaddle. On the bottom tier I have extra diapers, crib sheets, and velcro swaddles. Although these are items I have planned on needing I know my opinion may change and these items may be completely different when baby arrives. I will share my updates once I have used it in the real life moments and share what I replace or add!

Nursery Closet Organization

If living in New York City taught me anything, it’s that – when it comes to closets, utilizing vertical space to stay organized is key!

For our nursery closet, there were so many categories I wanted to incorporate including shoes + clothes organized by sizes from newborn, 0-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-9 months, and all the way up to 24 months! So I hired Inspired closets to replace the original single pole closet style and install this new system for us in 2 weeks. We had them install this middle shelving area to divide the closet and make room for easy basket storage.

The first clothing item hung in the new remodeled closet was a monogrammed knit sweater I ordered off Etsy. It’s neutral toned and it just made me smile to see my baby’s name officially on something!

Details on Shelves + More

I ordered 4 wooden bookshelves from Etsy to hang above the swivel chair to hold different books to read and they can store baby’s stuffed animals. I love the idea of making the room feel alive & act as if the animals are watching over the baby. The shelves are the same wood tone of the baby crib which also ties in those undertones to the storybook theme.

Also the oversized laundry basket made of whitewashed seagrass and matches the crib perfect. Lastly, the rug from West Elm is such a pretty neutral to bring the room together!

I have to be honest, I feel like I have been waiting for this chapter my entire life & I can’t believe it’s almost time to meet baby girl. Putting this nursery together over the past few months has made me feel more connected to baby girl each time something new arrived. When we were assembling the crib I could envision her in the room. It has emotionally prepared me to step into this mom role and I couldn’t be more excited. I am looking forward to little moments like – opening up her mat to sit to play with her, moments reclining in the swivel chair to read stories before bedtime, all while holding her close to me.

p.s. To all of you new moms in this with me, a friendly reminder that – your nursery doesn’t have to be perfect! Please don’t feel pressured when you see photos on Instagram, this is just inspiration for those in search of it. Even if all you have is a bassinet by your bed – that is all you need for the first few months anyway, everyone’s journey is different! I just used this nesting time to emotionally prepare myself & a calming space for baby, to show my love in my own way.

Thank you all for being a part of this growing journey with me and I’m so excited to share this next baby chapter with you!
